Instagram is a great platform for growing your brand and sharing your products. You can also grow quite quickly on this platform with minimal expense, provided you have a few tricks up your sleeve!

Provide Great Content

Make sure that you have decent content to share. Great quality images, colourful graphics and videos, informative captions get more likes and engagement.

Know Your Niche

Know your market and interact within that niche. For example, if you have a landscaping business, follow gardening accounts and other landscapers.

You can also follow people and interact based off of shared interests, e.g. – you might follow property agents who might be able to refer you if they have a client who needs a garden makeover!

Take-away: Don’t bother following random beauty/music/tech/etc bloggers if that isn’t your thing!

Increase Your Visibility

Instagram is a platform which prioritizes engagement. The more you engage, the more you are seen.”

So comment on pictures that have relevance to your interests. Like other people’s comments. Reply to comments on your posts and make connections!

Get Your 10 A Day In

Pick a hashtag that is quite popular, like and leave comments on the top ten posts, every day. You can pick a different hashtag each time, but interacting with high traffic posts helps to get you noticed!

Hashtag It

Speaking of hashtags, these are crucial!

You get 30 hashtags per post and you should make use of them! Try and vary between popular and low traffic ones. You can now use hashtags in your stories as well! Hide them behind images if you want to seem less spammy.

Did you know that you can hashtag to markets you want to appeal to? It’s a powerful tool that many people overlook!

Consistency is Key

Be consistent!

Post daily or a few times a day if possible. The more content you have the more engaged your audience will be and the quicker you will grow. After all who wants to follow someone who posts a few times a year?

Engage Before You Post

This is another neat trick. Before posting a new post, spend some time liking and commenting on other posts. That way when you do post, if you have any new followers, this will pop into their feeds straight away!

Stories Are Where It’s At

Not all of us are comfortable with going live, but if you are ok with it – Do it!

Live streams in stories and IG TV are given priority by the algorithm, plus your followers will be notified when you go live.

If you are not keen on being in front of the camera, make sure that at the very least you post all your latest grid posts to your Insta stories, as this will allow more visibility. People can click to your post from right there in the story.

Make It Pretty, Get Creative!

As mentioned before, Instagram is a very visual platform and you have great opportunity to get creative with your feed.

Find a theme, be it a colour scheme or a certain filter. Checkered or puzzle grids. Just browsing around Instagram you can find wonderful inspiration. You can tell a story about what your brand and values are about with pictures.

Use it to your full advantage, people will be more inclined to flock to a stunning account. Be conscientious of what you are posting, but also don’t get obsessed with making it perfect. You want to push out content and rather improve on it as you go rather than have it stuck in your drafts.

Lastly, be patient!

Yes, you get apps and “paid for” Instagram growth providers. You can also do the whole follow and unfollow dance to build up your following. But at the end of the day, it shows if you have got a fake following.

You could have 10k followers but virtually no engagement. And it is obvious when people are engaging sincerely and when it’s a bot on behalf of your brand, which comes across as tacky.

So don’t be in a rush. Build your following as you go!
